For some this post is going to offend the crap out of you, so if that’s the case stop reading now and go back to listening to your local Christian radio station. Thank you.
Over and over again in messages (not at a particular church or event but in general Christendom) I hear “God this and God that.” “You need a right relationship with God.” “God can take all your fears and pain away, you just have to believe.” Well, yes and NO!
You see, it seems like there is a trend in “Christianity” to say “GOD” a lot and say little to nothing about Jesus. Guess what, yes they are one in the same (the triune God the Father, Son, Spirit) but a lot of people do not make that connection.
Last night I was watching the GOP debate with Santorum, Romney, Paul, and Gingrich and I got pretty frustrated at a comment Romney made (I am not knocking him per say, just making a point). I do not recall the entire comment, but he ended it with, “One nation under God.” Now, this may seem harmless and pointless to bring up, and let me assure you I am not trying to get political. Romney is a Mormon, like it or not that’s just the way it is. Now, Mormons believe in God right? Otherwise he would not have said the statement above. This is exactly my point.
Why I am pissed:
Mormons do not believe in the Triune God. They believe God, Son, Spirit are separate. Well…..Nope- John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.” That is Jesus talking people!
Now this is ONE example of many (check this site out for a pretty cool comparison) of how ambiguous “God” can be.
I don’t want anyone to think that this post is just a post against Mormonism. No, this post is a charge to Pastors in the Christian Church (Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterians, and the like) to stand up and speak the name of Jesus, not just God. Yes, Jesus is God, God is God, but what many do not understand is that the God of the Bible and the God of religions like Mormonism, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, etc are NOT one in the same.
I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to sit through a church service/sermon and hear the ambiguous God thrown around. Moreover how many churches today will not give an opportunity to respond to Jesus and receive salvation. I am curious WHY?!? What are these pastors afraid of? I have so much respect for those church leaders who do not let ONE Sunday go by without talking about Jesus– who He is and what He did for sinners. But when you preach a sermon on how to have a better financial future and how to be a better parent without the mention of Jesus, you are wasting your time! What’s the point of all that? What’s the point of standing in front of a crowd that have gathered to worship JESUS and not even mention Him? This is simply foolish.
Again, I have such a deep respect for preachers and pastors who, no matter the topic, always tie in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I could go on and on about my frustrations, but I think I will save them for future posts.
So to wrap this up, Preacher– please talk about Jesus. Make HIM the champion at the end of the day. Make Him the reason your flock has gathered on Sunday. If you are more focused on your “how to be a better Christian and live a happier life with these 5 easy steps” then why don’t you just write a freakin book and go on a tour to make YOUR name great, cause you aren’t helping the cause of Christ.
